BroccoMax ® contains a standardized amount of SGS, Sulforaphane glucosinolate (also known as Glucoraphanin), and uses a patented process that preserves myrosinase, the enzyme found in broccoli that metabolizes SGS in the small intestine to the organosulfur isothiocyanate compound Sulforaphane.
Sulforaphane is a potent inducer of phase 2 detoxifying enzymes and effectively protects cellular DNA. The detoxifying enzymes activated by sulforaphane are active antioxidants and protect tissues from free radicals.
The ingredients included in the BroccoMax® delayed-release capsule have been demonstrated in vitro to provide approximately 8 mg of true sulforaphane, making this product the most effective, scientifically validated supplement targeting sulforaphane activation.
For over two decades, scientists have been studying the benefits of SGS (also called glucoraphanin) , its much more active metabolite known as sulforaphane, and other components of cruciferous vegetables as long-lasting antioxidants and more. These compounds work together to activate the body's phase 1 and 2 detoxifying enzymes.
Phase 1 enzymes make many toxins more water-soluble in preparation for their removal from the body, but this process can increase their toxicity. Phase 2 enzymes promote the easy removal of toxins. Thus, the Phase 1 and 2 systems must be in balance to protect health. Modern research shows that SGS initially activates Phase I enzymes.
When metabolized to its isothiocyanate form, known as sulforaphane, the compound stimulates the activity of phase 2 enzymes and also increases the level of thioredoxin, an enzyme that – among other things – protects cells in the retina of the eye against various types of oxidative attack.
In addition, sulforaphane:
➡ maintains blood pressure and cardiovascular health
➡ is active in the field of stomach health, including supporting healthy stomach acid levels
➡ promotes normal, healthy inflammatory responses, including
➡ suppression of COX-2, activation of antioxidant enzymes, and modulation of cytokine production
➡ improves the regulation of cellular integrity
➡ inhibits advanced glycation end product (AGE) induced by damage leading to a decrease in the expression of the receptor for AGE products
Consumption of broccoli and related vegetables has poor efficacy, and broccoli extracts, although often rich in sulforaphane glucosinolates, have not yet been shown to provide the myrosinase necessary to liberate sulforaphane.
Now Jarrow 's BroccoMax® solves the mystery of sulforaphane activation. BroccoMax® combines sulforaphane glucosinolate with myrosinase and, together with vitamin C (as calcium ascorbate), stimulates the catalysis of the sulforaphane-generating reaction. This potent combination is delivered in cutting-edge acid-resistant, vegetarian, time-release capsules known as DRcaps® .
This ensures the formation of sulforaphane in the upper part of the small intestine, the ideal environment for sulforaphane formation and absorption.
