The rowan tree was believed to be sacred to Thor, who rarely struck it with his lightning. The bitter and astringent small fruits of the ophika tree have been used for centuries in traditional medical practices of various peoples to treat a wide range of health problems. They are rich in antioxidants, including vitamin C, which stimulates the production of red blood cells and effectively neutralizes free radicals, limiting the oxidative damage they cause to cells.
