Holland & Barrett Rose Hip is a great tool for strengthening and full functioning of the immune and circulatory systems, the brain and the thyroid gland. Rose hips help accelerate skin regeneration (elastin and collagen), strengthen blood vessels and cell membranes of all cells. The extract is a good aid for sand and stones in the urinary tract, increasing the amount of urine and the frequency of urination. Rose hips have a particularly beneficial effect on liver function, as well as lowering blood sugar levels, which makes them suitable for diabetes. And more:
CANCER PREVENTION
According to a study (1), rosehip extract reduced the growth and migration of breast cancer cells by as much as 45 percent. The fruit extract also prevented brain metastases.
Another Spanish study shows that rose hips, as an active component of the daily diet, can help prevent colon cancer. The fruit also has anti-inflammatory properties, which contribute to its preventive properties. Rose hips contain some bioactive compounds such as phenols, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), beta-carotene, tannins and pectins - all of which help limit oxidative stress, one of the main culprits of cancer. A major flavonoid in rose hips, called tiliroside, has strong anti-inflammatory properties.
Rosehips also contain other active compounds called carotenoids, which are known to slow the growth of some forms of tumors. Rosehip extract has also been found to prevent epithelialization, a common complication of radiotherapy for head and neck cancer patients. Rosehips, surprisingly, also contain lycopene (the compound that gives them their red color). Lycopene is popular for its anti-cancer activity. It stimulates communication between cells, damage to which leads to the growth of cancerous tumors.
REGULATES CHOLESTEROL
Regular intake of rosehip extract contributes to lowering cholesterol levels. The fruit is particularly effective in obese patients. And this decrease in turn leads to a 17 percent reduction in the risk of heart disease. Rosehip can also be used as a safe alternative to cholesterol-lowering drugs (such as statins), which can have side effects.
EXCELLENT SOURCE OF VITAMIN C
Rose hips are packed with vitamin C - they contain 60 times more vitamin C than oranges. One of the main benefits of vitamin C is that it stimulates the production of collagen in the body. Collagen is a protein that forms connective tissue in the body. The vitamin also treats inflammation and improves immunity. It prevents scurvy, a disease that can cause muscle weakness, joint pain, rashes, and tooth loss. The vitamin C in rose hips also helps maintain blood vessel health. The vitamin C in rose hips also helps the body absorb iron better. Iron has several benefits, the main one being preventing anemia and keeping your blood healthy. And yes, vitamin C can help prevent and shorten the duration of cold and flu symptoms. So, you don't have to worry even if the seasons change.
And remember never use aluminum pans or utensils when cooking foods, as they can destroy the vitamin in the food.
RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS
Rose hips reduce hip, joint, and knee pain by about a third, according to a study of 300 osteoarthritis patients (see below). Rose hips also contain the fatty acid GOPO, which experts say is the plant version of fish oil. And GOPO may be one of the contributing factors to the fruit's anti-arthritic properties. Another important quality of rose hips in terms of treating arthritis symptoms is that they do not have ulcerogenic effects and do not irritate the stomach like some other medications.
BLOOD SUGAR
Regular intake of rose hips can lower blood sugar levels, improve glucose tolerance, and help treat diabetes.
FOR THE HEART
Rose hips significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, according to studies. The flavonoids and antioxidants in rose hips also protect the body from heart disease.
REDUCES INFLAMMATION
Regular consumption of rose hips can reduce levels of C-reactive protein, a substance produced by the liver that increases in concentration with increased inflammation. The anti-inflammatory properties of rose hips also help prevent cartilage erosion. And more - it regulates blood pressure, aids digestion, stimulates the kidneys, supports skin health.
